Dislike X Dislike is the 35th chapter of the Skip Beat! manga series.
Plot[]
Kyoko takes care of a sick Ren while studying for her entrance exam. She continues to support Ren as his manager.
Chapter Summary[]
At Ren's apartment, Kyoko has put him to bed and is tending to him. Ren has another memory of little Kyoko taking care of him as well, and realizes that his image for the Japanese Woman was moulded after her. He smiles very nicely and thanks "Kyoko-chan."
Kyoko is in so much shock that the night passes without her managing to study anything. She spends a good deal of time wondering why he said it like that, and how she used to wish Shotaro would have looked at her and called her like that.
Ren wakes up and can't remember much of how he ended up in his bed, he looks around and finds Kyoko's study books. She is in the kitchen making breakfast while trying to study, so she ends up making a big mess. Still, she manage to prepare something nice, although Ren is not drinking her "stamina juice" because it looks horrifying and jokingly asks her if she hates him that much. Kyoko goes blank, unable to answer the question like she used to.
They are saved by the beep of the thermometer. His temperature has gone down and Kyoko asks him to at least have the soup she prepared. Ren blushing inquires about how he got into his pyjamas. Kyoko also blushes telling him he changed himself as she recalls how she used lines from the drama to bring him to semi-consciousness and get him to do things. They both have an awkward silence as Kyoko thinks how she didn't even change Sho for heavens sake. Kyoko gets up to prepare food for while they are on set. While she is away he ponders on her reaction or well non-reaction to his joke about "hating" him. The soup is delicious and he wonders why she is going through so much trouble for someone she hates.
Later that afternoon, while Ren works, Kyoko is trying to study on the set but gets distracted by Ren every time, for she feels she learns so much just by watching him. She comes across the booklet with his dialogue. She realizes it's very close to the conversation they had that morning. She's a little relieved that Ren was just subconsciously regurgitating lines. As she honestly doesn't know how she feels about him. She's not a good natured person that can like someone who despises them but she instinctively couldn't answer. She whips out her Ren voodoo doll, who tsks at her for taking care of a guy she hates. Yes she is a real idiot. Ren finds her mimicking his voice, and wonders is she copying him? Blasting smile, she's really good! Kyoko freezes wondering if he saw the doll but it seems from the angle in which he approached her, he did not. He takes the script for the next drama and leaves.
Ren is struggling with the lines due to the residual brain fog from the fever. He thinks back to Kyoko's muttering of how she's an idiot. She hates him clearly but can't help go all out for him. It reminds him of how even when she was a child, the more she hated something the more effort she would put in. He thinks its not a bad trait but what use is revenge? She's better of doing something but only for herself. He then shakes himself, why does he care so much?
While on a rest, Kyoko discovers Ren trying to study his lines. Kyoko's surprised as he doesn't seem the type to struggle with recall, its likely the flu. She wonders if he might do better with someone reading the opposite character's line, so she joins in and recites the scene from memory and between both of them they finish the scene.
Ren is shocked when he hears Kyoko join in but continues the lines until they are reciting them face-to-face. He is amazed at how very good her acting and reading of the lines are, especially given she has been only training for such a short time, and wonders if it really is all just for the sake of "revenge."
